Non-Surgical Decompression Therapy

Compression of the vertebrae of the spine can lead to a number of musculoskeletal problems. You may experience frequent back pain, neck pain, or nerve compression that affects your ability to perform normally in your daily life. Spinal decompression from a chiropractor can help these problems without invasive surgery or long recovery periods. At Heuser Chiropractic Health and Auto Accident Recovery Center, we offer non-surgical decompression treatment in Colorado Springs, CO for patients with these types of problems.

Understanding Non-Surgical Decompression Therapy

Gravity constantly presses down on the discs of the spinal column as people go about their daily tasks causing degeneration and herniation of the discs. Aging and injury can cause vulnerabilities that cause the discs that cushion the individual vertebrae to compress or herniate leading to severe musculoskeletal problems.

Over time, this compression can worsen, leading to pain and a lack of flexibility. Spinal decompression therapy uses a motorized table to provide traction to relieve pressure on discs and vertebrae in the spinal column. This traction gently separates the vertebrae to allow better functionality and the distribution of nutrients to the structures within the spine.

Conditions Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Can Help

Our chiropractor may recommend spinal decompression in addition to other type of treatment for a problem. The method can be used to relieve low back pain, herniated discs, compression of the sciatic nerve, and degenerative disc disease.

Spinal decompression may also be used to help nerve root degeneration, worn spinal joints, or neck pain. Our chiropractor will carefully determine the appropriate amount of decompression for your individual needs.

What Happens during Treatment?

During non-surgical spinal decompression, the patient is put into a harness that attaches around the hips. This harness connects to a lower table that gently slides back and forth.

The movement provides traction for the spine and relaxation to reduce muscle strain. Decompression therapy sessions generally last from 15 to 30 minutes. A series of treatments may be necessary for the full benefit.
